Greatham Parish Church

Greatham church on a sunny day

Description

An unrestored simple church is a rarity. This twelfth century herdsman’s church is an unrestored single chamber with a slate-hung bell turret. It is in an idyllic position next to Greatham Manor House. There is a seventeenth century altar rail and a two-decker pulpit dating back to 1820. The skirmish of Greatham Bridge, in the Civil War, was fought nearby.
